Over the years, we have been busy planting afforestation areas, increasing steam border plantations and improving wild boundary's on our 100acre family farm. With our next project, the total land dedicated to a 10-15 year rotation will be around 15% of the farm, so approximately 15acres.
Last season we produced 60 tonnes of Biomass from small scale thinning and the first harvest from steam borders. The previous season yielded a similar amount, and we aim to harvest between 50 to 70 tonnes per year ongoing. We generally have 60 tonnes of Biomass from each acre and now have 15 acres harvested on a 10-15 year rotation.
From 60 tonnes of Biomass, we will produce 15tonne of Biochar. With the fuel sourced close to our Biochar plant, reducing transport and handling, we achieve a high carbon capture. We will capture over 40tonnes of CO2 per year just from maintaining our farmland.
See some of our other posts below showing how the 10-15 year harvests benefit direct air CO2 capture and improve Biodiversity.
